Kerguelen Archipelago is situated 49º20 south and 70º20 east is a french possession lying some 1.300km from France in the Southern Indian Ocean . The coast of kerguelen is deeply indented with fjords, whilst the interior is heavily glaciated.
Kerguelen weather is harsh, with rain and snow most days of the year.
